Tattoos

Tattooing is an irreversible procedure & although we take extreme care in producing a satisfactory reproduction of any design and capabilities of artists to replicate the desired artwork. It has been known in some people the following can occur that is not the fault of the artist – infections, ink loss, ink fading, allergic reactions, and dryness of the tattoo. We are happy to advice on any problems that may arise & in the event of ink loss we do encourage that you return to us within 6 weeks from your original tattoo appointment date for a touch-up. Tattoo touch-ups will be free of charge for a maximum of 6 weeks after your original tattoo appointment date. After this period a fee will be required. Tattoo touch-ups will be charged due to negligence if you do not take care of your tattoo according to our specifications.

Legally, in South Africa there is no age restriction barring children from obtaining tattoos and body piercings.  South Africa is one of the few countries with no age limit governing tattoos.  We do not tattoo anyone under the age 18 years. Parental consent is not accepted. Therefore, proof age maybe required in form of a picture ID or driving licence.

We welcome you sending us a design prior to booking.

Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours prior to Tattooing. If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, we will ask you to leave, and any deposit/voucher will become void, and no monies paid returned.

Absolutely No drugs, alcohol, or energy drinks before or directly after you get tattooed. Do not apply topical numbing cream to the area before getting tattooed. We cannot tattoo burnt or peeling skin.

A Tattoo consent form will be provided for you, this will ask you if you are over 18 years, pregnant or under the influence of alcohol or drugs of any kind. These are the main reasons for a tattoo to be refused. By signing our consent form, you have legally signed to say you agree to the above and that you don’t have any problems regarding your health.

We do not rush tattoos, so give yourself time and do not rush the artist.

Smoking is not allowed in the studio, if you wish to stop for a break this will come off the time allocated to you.

We do not undertake offensive / racist / gang related tattoos.

Please be aware, we at all times reserve the right to refuse service for any reason, for example poor attitude, being unprepared or unreasonably late for your appointment or simply changing your mind with an unacceptable amount of prior notice or an excessive number of times. A common reason for refusal of service is excessive alterations to size, small details or placement, this is a common indicator of being uncertain and could mean later you regret rushing in.

We unfortunately will be unable to tattoo you if we feel that you are too uncertain about your design and are "settling" with it, please be aware this is for your own benefit as it is our professional opinion that clients whom "settle" with a design are ultimately less happy with the finished product.

Our full portfolio is available online and we prefer you book your appointment at-least 1 week in advance. If you have not conveyed your design requirements fully by the time of your appointment or observed our style before booking and are then uncertain on your tattoo day in such a manner that we are no longer comfortable tattooing you, we will be unable to re-book you and your deposit will be forfeited to cover our loss of income.

Healing time for most tattoos varies from 2 - 4 weeks depending on size and placement, during these few weeks, you’ll need to avoid tanning beds and sun tanning as well as lakes, pools, hot tubs, baths (quick showers are ok) and any other body of water where bacteria may be present. Do your best not to over expose the area of your body that has been tattooed.

It is your responsibility to care for your new tattoo and follow the artist advice. We will provide all tattoo aftercare information

Prices for tattoos depends upon the size, location, amount of detail, and technical requirements involved, therefore any prices given by phone, email, messenger etc are estimates only, not quotes, and may be recalculated at the time of the appointment.

For an accurate quote it's best to book a 15min consultation with one of our tattoo artists.  This consultation is free. You are also welcomed to email us your design.  We can give you a rough estimate of price for your tattoo via email, but the final price will be determined by the artist in person.

Walk-ins are welcome on a first come, first serve basis, assuming we have space. We do however recommend calling ahead and checking availability before coming in. It’s best to make an appointment.

Appointments are only accepted with a R500 deposit to reserve your time slot. Your deposit will be applied to the price of your tattoo. If you reserve and appointment and are unable to attend at your scheduled time, please provide us with 48 hours notice so that we may reschedule you. Queen of Steel will retain your deposit if you fail to reschedule or cancel your appointment within 48h hours prior to the day of your tattoo appointment.

Your deposit will be valid for 6 months from date of purchase to reschedule.  Deposits paid are not refundable.

If you fail to show up for your appointment without providing notice, you will lose your deposit.

Tattoo designs are done once a deposit has been paid, securing the booking. If you choose to cancel your appointment after your design has been finalised, a fee of R200 will be deducted and given to the artist for their time.

Designs remain property of Queen of Steel until the day of your booking.

We do not send out any design work prior to bookings. Depending on your design and time needed for this, the artist may choose to design with you on the day of your booking to include you in the creative process.

Sometimes but not always, which is not the fault of the tattoo artist vasovagal syncope (fainting) may occur.  This is basically your body’s reaction to distress and causes your blood pressure to drop rapidly, hence fainting. Symptoms and causes vary from person to person. The trigger is different in everyone, but the sight of blood or the knowledge that your body has been compromised, are two common triggers.  If you are aware that this might occur, please inform the tattoo artist or Queen of Steel representative so that they can take the proper precautions.

Tattoo artists are independent contractors for Queen of Steel.

Piercing

All Piercings are done in a sterile environment. Piercing healing times will vary, depending on placement and jewellery chosen to be pierced with.

The piercer or front desk reception will advise the best jewellery or placement of piercings, which may vary depending on anatomy. Queen of Steel will not be held liable for any irritation, migration or complications that may arise due to your final decision regarding the type of jewellery chosen or placement thereof.

Queen of Steel representatives will recommend you return to the studio to downsize the length or size of your jewellery for certain piercings, to prevent irritation or any form of migration.

Due to jewellery quality standards and sterilisation needs, we do not pierce with jewellery bought elsewhere. Our jewellery is sterilised and processed in advance. The best selections from our full range will be available for piercing. You're welcome to bring in your existing Queen of Steel pieces and consult with a piercer to see if it can be used for an initial piercing.

It has been known in some people the following can occur that is not the fault of the piercer – infections, irritation, excessive swelling, allergic reactions, hyper granulation tissue or hypertrophic scarring as well as dryness of the piercing. We are happy to advise on any problems that may arise. In the event of excessive swelling within the first 7 days after a new piercing, we do encourage that you return to us as soon as soon possible for us to replace your jewellery. Jewellery replaced due to excessive swelling within the first 7 days will be replaced free of charge. After this period a fee may be required.

We will change your body jewellery at our minimal service charge at the time of purchase, providing no tools or tapering is required. Service fees payable for jewellery changes may vary depending on sterilisation or tapering needs.

Absolutely No drugs or alcohol before or directly after you get pierced.

Alcohol thins out your blood and can lead to excessive bleeding, swelling and bruising. We will not pierce an individual who is visibly intoxicated.

Piercing during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended because even if the piercing is performed safely, there’s always a chance that an infection at the piercing site could occur and spread to your bloodstream.

Do not apply topical numbing cream to the area before getting pierced.

We cannot pierce burnt or peeling skin.

A Piercing consent form will be provided for you, this will ask you if you are pregnant or under the influence of alcohol or drugs of any kind. These are the main reasons for a piercing to be refused.

By signing our consent form, you have legally signed to say you don’t have any problems regarding your health and that you are of correct age.

Sometimes but not always, which is not the fault of the piercer vasovagal syncope (fainting) may occur.  This is basically your body’s reaction to distress and causes your blood pressure to drop rapidly, hence fainting. Symptoms and causes vary from person to person. The trigger is different in everyone, but the sight of blood or the knowledge that your body has been compromised, are two common triggers.  If you are aware that this might occur, please inform the piercer or Queen of Steel representative so that they can take the proper precautions.

It is your responsibility to care for your new piercing and follow the piercers advice. We will provide all piercing aftercare information.
